not quite spotless
i just watched the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, again.
How happy is the blameless Vestal's lot! / The world forgetting, by the world forgot / Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! / Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd.
sometimes i do think it would be great to be able to erase some memories. i wonder if the good are worth the bad. but then other times, i know my memories are so amazing and i am blessed to have them.
and you know who you are. at times like this, late at night, i wish you would meet me in montauk...
quote of the day: "Make sure the lubricant is unscented. Don't join fashionable 'schools of thought.' Read everything." (Zadie Smith, author: white teeth, autograph man, her advice for young people)
RANDOM FACT ABOUT ME: my coat pockets are often filled with chip and candy bar wrappers. i also stuff them behind the pillows of my couches. i have been doing so since i was a child, and still do so on the odd occassion of visiting my parents. it keeps my mom on her toes.

Here are my problems with Zadie Smith; perhaps you can convince me to abandon them:
(1) It's patently obvious how hard she tries to be clever, ergo she's not actually that clever, because if she were she wouldn't have to try. The distinction lies somewhere between creativity and randomness-for-the-sake-of-randomness.
(2) She has zero credibility to be dispensing advice to young people, given that she is, if I'm not mistaken, not even aged thirty years.
(3) There's a very sharp line beyond which she loses all verisimilitude. Viz., she does not have the experience necessary to write a credible account of WWII or to report the thoughts of an old man.
Am I wrong?

Dear Karenina, I'm just a fellow traveller on nerve.com. Admittedly I think the whole blogging trend is mostly bollocks, but yours is proving the thorn in my theory's side, as it's pretty consistently interesting.
Does this help disambiguate who I am?:
"Hey man, my schoolday's insane
Hey man, my work's down the drain
Hey man, well she's a total_blam_blam
She said she had to squeeze it but she, and then she . . ."
Still don't have it? I'm the bloke that asked you which photos on that intimate collection were yours. Sorry, I'd send a link to my blog, but since I don't blog, I cannot do.
